Mexico is one of the most popular US destinations and ranks number eight in terms of worldwide international tourism. Let’s take a look at the top ten Mexico destinations:

Mexico City: To begin with, there cannot be a better place than Mexico City to know what the city is all about. The main tourist destinations in the Mexico City are Pyramid of the Sun, Pyramid of the Moon, La Zona Rosa which means the shopping district, El Palenque and El Zocalo which are the largest public plazas in the world. Mexico City is also well known for its finest museums in the world: National Museum of Anthropology and History is definitely worth a visit.

Guadalajara, Jalisco: Guadalajara is the second largest city after the Mexico City in terms of population. Guadalajara gave birth to the Mexico’s renowned traditions like tequila, mariachi music and charros, or Mexican cowboys. This city is a mixture of European culture with modern architecture and infrastructure, which makes Guadalajara one of the most popular tourist attractions.

Cancun: Cancun, a coastal city in the Mexico’s easternmost state is located on the Yucatan Channel that separates Mexico from the island of Cuba in the Greater Antilles. Cancun is also referred as Mexican Caribbean and it is surrounded with the world’s most renowned tourist resorts. The Parque Nizuc, at the south end of the island includes the Wet ‘N Wild Water Park and a dolphin swim program. The Hotel Zone’s newest shopping center, Las Islas has plenty of shops and restaurants, boat rides through manmade canals, interactive aquarium and more.

Riviera Maya: Riviera Maya is a coastal highway which runs parallel to the Caribbean coastline of Quintana Roo, Mexico and it was originally called as the Cancun – Tulum corridor. The Riviera Maya is very popular for its incredible all-inclusive resorts. The major tourist attractions of Riviera Maya are the coastal and reef water activities across the coastal water and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. This barrier reef system is the second longest in the world. The activities include scuba diving, swimming with the dolphins, snorkeling, Jet Skiing, horse riding and guided jungle tours.

Merida: This is a perfect place for tourists who are inclined towards the lost “Maya Civilization” as they will be surprised to find the culture thriving in a modern city. The zocalo is known for its lively family activities that include night cultural events around the historic center, traditional Yucatecan dancing, folk ballet, concerts, puppet shows and more. Normally, the families gather at the Parque Centenario for its train, pony rides, a pond with rowboats, playgrounds, a skateboarding rink and a free zoo with jaguars, toucans, monkeys and tropical birds.

Apart from the above Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta, Tulum, Puerto Penasco and Los Cabos are also the most famous and popular Mexican destinations.
